The Zhou Dynasty

The Zhou Dynasty ruled ancient China for about 800 years, from 1046 to 256 BCE. It was the longest dynasty in Chinese history. During this time, important ideas about government and philosophy were born. Great thinkers like Confucius lived during the Zhou period.

Ruling Ancient China

The Zhou kings said they had the "Mandate of Heaven," meaning the gods chose them to rule. The kingdom was divided into smaller states led by local lords. Over time, these states became more powerful and fought each other. This led to a period called the Warring States.

Great Thinkers

The Zhou period produced some of China's greatest philosophers. Confucius taught about respect, education, and being kind to others. Laozi founded Taoism, which taught people to live in harmony with nature. Sun Tzu wrote "The Art of War," a famous book about military strategy.
