Songkran

Songkran is the most famous holiday in Thailand. It is the start of the Thai New Year. The festival happens every April when the weather is very hot. People celebrate by throwing water at each other in the streets.

The Water Festival

During Songkran, cities turn into giant water fights. People use buckets, hoses, and water guns to get each other wet. The water is meant to wash away bad luck from the old year. It also helps everyone cool off in the hot weather. Kids and grown-ups all join in the fun.

Family and Tradition

Songkran is also a time for family and respect. People visit their parents and grandparents to wish them well. They pour scented water gently on the hands of older family members. Many people go to temples to pray and give food to monks. Sand castles are built at temples as a special tradition.
