World Water Day

World Water Day takes place on March 22 every year. It was created by the United Nations in 1993. The day reminds everyone that clean water is very important. Many people around the world still do not have safe water to drink.

Why Water Matters

Water is needed for drinking, cooking, and growing food. People also need it for washing and staying healthy. About 2 billion people in the world do not have access to safe drinking water. Dirty water can make people very sick. That is why it is important to take care of our water sources.

How People Help

On World Water Day, people learn about water problems around the world. Schools and groups organize events to teach others about saving water. Some communities raise money to build wells and water systems in places that need them. Everyone can help by turning off the tap when brushing their teeth and taking shorter showers.

Fun Facts
