Mr. Potato Head
Mr. Potato Head is a fun toy shaped like a potato. You can stick eyes, ears, a nose, a mouth, and other parts into it. You can make silly or serious faces by mixing and matching the pieces.
The Story of Mr. Potato Head
Mr. Potato Head was invented by George Lerner in 1949. The first version did not come with a plastic potato. Kids had to use a real potato from the kitchen! They pushed the face parts right into the real vegetable.
The Hasbro toy company started selling Mr. Potato Head in 1952. Later, they added a plastic potato body so kids did not need a real one anymore.
Mr. Potato Head Becomes a Star
Mr. Potato Head was the first toy ever advertised on television. The TV commercials helped make it very popular. Millions of kids wanted one.
Mr. Potato Head became even more famous when he appeared in the Toy Story movies. In the movies, he is a funny character who gets upset when his parts fall off. Today, the toy comes with hats, shoes, and many silly accessories.
