The Coffee Maker

A coffee maker is a machine that makes coffee to drink. Many grown-ups use one every morning. The machine heats water and drips it through ground coffee beans. The result is a warm, brown drink called coffee.

How It Brews Coffee

You pour water into the top of the coffee maker. Then you add ground coffee to a paper filter. When you turn it on, the water heats up and flows through the coffee. The flavor comes out and drips into a glass pot below. In just a few minutes, the coffee is ready.

History of Coffee Makers

People have made coffee for hundreds of years. Early coffee was boiled in pots over a fire. In 1908, a German woman named Melitta Bentz invented the paper coffee filter. The first automatic drip coffee maker came out in 1972. It was called Mr. Coffee and became very popular.
