The E-Reader
The E-Reader
An e-reader is a special device for reading electronic books. It has a screen that looks a lot like real paper. You can carry thousands of books in one small, light device.
How E-Readers Were Made
Early e-readers came out in the late 1990s, but they were not very popular at first. In 2007, Amazon released the Kindle, and e-readers took off. The Kindle was light, easy to use, and could store hundreds of books.
Other companies like Barnes & Noble made their own e-readers too. E-readers use a special screen called e-ink that is easy on your eyes, even in bright sunlight.
Reading on an E-Reader
E-readers are great for people who love to read. You can buy and download a new book in seconds. The built-in light lets you read in bed without turning on a lamp.
You can also change the size of the words to make them bigger or smaller. Many libraries let you borrow e-books for free on your e-reader. One e-reader can hold enough books to fill a whole library.
Fun Facts
- A single e-reader can hold over 1,000 books.
- E-reader screens use almost no battery power, so they last for weeks on one charge.
- The first Kindle sold out in just five and a half hours.
Did You Know?
E-ink screens work by moving tiny black and white particles around using electricity, which is why they look so much like real paper.
