The Frisbee

A Frisbee is a round, flat disc that flies through the air when you throw it. People play catch with Frisbees at parks and beaches. There are even sports like Ultimate Frisbee and disc golf.

How the Frisbee Was Invented

The Frisbee story started with pie tins. In the 1940s, college students liked to throw empty pie tins from the Frisbie Pie Company. They would yell "Frisbie!" to warn people nearby.

In 1948, a man named Walter Morrison made a plastic flying disc. It flew much better than a pie tin. The Wham-O toy company later bought the idea and named it the Frisbee.

Frisbee Games and Sports

People play many games with Frisbees. The simplest is just playing catch with a friend. Disc golf is a game where you throw a Frisbee into metal baskets on a course.

Ultimate Frisbee is a fast team sport. Two teams try to pass the disc to a teammate in the end zone. Dogs also love to chase and catch Frisbees in the air.
