The Stapler

A stapler is a tool that joins paper with staples. You load it with a strip of staples and press down. One staple shoots out and goes through the paper. Then it bends on the other side to hold the paper together. Staplers are found in almost every office and school.

The First Stapler

The first stapler was made for King Louis XV of France in the 1700s. It used staples made of gold. A stapler that loaded many staples at once was invented in 1879. Over time, staplers became smaller and easier to use. Today, almost every desk has one.

Types of Staplers

There are many kinds of staplers. Small ones fit in your hand and are used for a few pages. Big electric staplers can staple thick books with one push. Staple guns are strong staplers used for wood and fabric. Some staplers do not even use real staples.
