The Toothbrush
A toothbrush is a tool for cleaning teeth. It has a long handle and soft bristles on one end. People use toothbrushes with toothpaste twice a day. Brushing helps keep teeth strong and breath fresh.
Why We Brush
Brushing your teeth gets rid of food stuck between them. It also removes a sticky stuff called plaque. If plaque is not cleaned off, it can cause holes in teeth called cavities. Dentists say kids should brush for two whole minutes each time. Don't forget to brush your tongue, too.
History of the Toothbrush
People have cleaned their teeth for thousands of years. The first toothbrushes were little sticks with frayed ends. Modern toothbrushes with bristles were made in China around 1498. They used pig hair for the bristles. Today's toothbrushes are made of plastic and soft nylon that is gentle on your gums.
Fun Facts
