The Trampoline

A trampoline is a big, stretchy surface that lets you jump really high. It is held up by springs attached to a metal frame. Kids and grown-ups love bouncing on trampolines for fun and exercise.

Who Invented the Trampoline?

George Nissen invented the first modern trampoline in 1936. He was a gymnast who got the idea from watching circus performers bounce on safety nets. He built his first trampoline in his garage using canvas and rubber springs.

Nissen traveled the world showing off his invention. He even bounced on a trampoline with a kangaroo to get attention! His invention became popular for both fun and sports training.

Trampolines Today

Today, trampolines are found in backyards all over the world. Many have safety nets around them to keep jumpers from falling off. Trampoline parks are also very popular places for kids to play.

Trampolining became an Olympic sport in the year 2000. Athletes do amazing flips and twists high in the air. Bouncing on a trampoline is also great exercise for your whole body.
