What Do Dentists Do
Dentists are doctors who take care of your teeth and gums. They check for cavities and clean your teeth. Dentists teach you how to brush and floss the right way. Healthy teeth help you eat, talk, and smile with confidence.
Visiting the Dentist
When you visit the dentist, they look at every tooth in your mouth. They take X-rays, which are pictures of your teeth that show what is happening inside. Dentists clean off plaque, a sticky film that causes cavities. If you have a cavity, the dentist fills it so your tooth stays strong.
Keeping Teeth Healthy
Dentists want you to brush your teeth twice a day. They also want you to floss every day to clean between your teeth. Some dentists put braces on teeth to make them straight. Orthodontists are special dentists who are experts at straightening teeth. Dentists say you should visit them every six months.
