The Korean Language

Korean is spoken by more than 80 million people. It is the main language of both North and South Korea. Korean uses its own alphabet called Hangul. Many kids around the world now learn Korean because they like K-pop music and Korean shows.

The Hangul Alphabet

Hangul was invented in 1443 by King Sejong the Great. He wanted a simple way for everyone to read and write. Hangul has 14 basic letters for sounds called consonants. It also has 10 basic vowels. People say Hangul is one of the easiest alphabets to learn in the world.

How Korean Works

Korean puts verbs at the end of sentences. This is different from English. Korean also has special polite words to use with older people. Kids learn to speak in a respectful way to their parents and teachers. Korean has many words borrowed from Chinese and English.
