Bigfoot and Yeti

Bigfoot is a legendary ape-like creature said to live in the forests of North America. The Yeti, or Abominable Snowman, is a similar creature from the mountains of Asia. Many people claim to have seen these creatures. Scientists have not found proof that either one exists.

Bigfoot of North America

Bigfoot is said to be a tall, hairy creature that walks on two legs. It supposedly lives in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. People have reported finding giant footprints in the mud. A famous film from 1967 seems to show Bigfoot walking through the woods in California.

The Yeti of the Himalayas

The Yeti is said to live in the snowy Himalaya Mountains of Asia. Climbers have reported seeing large footprints in the snow. The people of Nepal and Tibet have told stories about the Yeti for centuries. Most scientists believe Yeti sightings are actually bears or other known animals.

Fun Facts

  • The word 'Yeti' comes from a Tibetan word meaning 'rock bear.'
  • Bigfoot is also called 'Sasquatch,' a name from a Native American language.
  • There are Bigfoot sightings reported in every U.S. state except Hawaii.

Did You Know?

In 2011, scientists tested hair samples that were said to be from Yetis. The DNA showed they actually came from a rare type of bear. The 'Yeti' might really be an unusual Himalayan bear that walks on its hind legs!
