Creation Stories Around the World
Creation Stories Around the World
Every culture on Earth has stories about how the world began. Some say the world hatched from a giant egg. Others say it was made from the body of a giant. These creation stories show how people everywhere have tried to explain where we come from. Even though the stories are different, many share similar ideas.
Different Beginnings
In Chinese mythology, a giant named Pangu broke out of a cosmic egg and pushed the sky and earth apart. In Norse mythology, the world was made from the body of a frost giant named Ymir. Many Native American stories tell of a world covered in water, with animals diving down to bring up mud to make land.
What They Have in Common
Many creation stories start with darkness or water before the world appears. Light often comes as one of the first creations. Humans are usually made last, after the world is ready. Many stories also include a great flood that almost destroys everything. These shared ideas show that people everywhere ask the same big questions.
Fun Facts
