The Twelve Olympians

The most important Greek gods were called the Twelve Olympians. Zeus was the king of all the gods. His brothers Poseidon and Hades ruled the sea and the underworld. Other Olympians included Athena, Apollo, and Artemis.

How the Greeks Honored Their Gods

The Greeks prayed to their gods every day. They held big festivals with games, music, and plays. The Olympic Games were created to honor Zeus. The Parthenon in Athens was a giant temple built for Athena.
