Hercules

Hercules was the strongest hero in Greek mythology. His Greek name was Heracles. He was the son of Zeus and a human mother. He had to complete twelve impossible tasks called the Twelve Labors.

The Twelve Labors

Hercules had to finish twelve dangerous tasks to prove himself. He defeated the Nemean lion, whose skin could not be cut. He killed the nine-headed Hydra, a terrifying water monster. He even held up the sky while the Titan Atlas took a break!

A Hero's Life

Hercules traveled all over the ancient world on his adventures. He helped many people along the way. He was so strong he could wrestle gods and monsters. After he died, Zeus made him a god and brought him to Mount Olympus.

Fun Facts

  • When Hercules cut off one of the Hydra's heads, two more grew back.
  • He cleaned a stable of 3,000 cattle in one day by diverting two rivers.
  • The Romans changed his Greek name from Heracles to Hercules.
