A hero named Bellerophon tamed Pegasus with a golden bridle from Athena. Together they defeated a fire-breathing monster called the Chimera. But when Bellerophon tried to fly to Mount Olympus, Zeus sent a gadfly that stung Pegasus. Bellerophon fell off, and Pegasus went to live with the gods.
