Poseidon

Poseidon was the mighty god of the sea. He was Zeus's brother and one of the most powerful gods. He carried a three-pointed spear called a trident. When he was angry, he could cause earthquakes and storms at sea.

Ruler of the Oceans

After the gods defeated the Titans, they split up the world. Zeus got the sky, Hades got the underworld, and Poseidon got the sea. Poseidon lived in a golden palace under the ocean. He rode across the waves in a chariot pulled by seahorses.

Poseidon's Powers

Poseidon could control the waves and tides. He created horses as a gift for humans. Sailors prayed to him before long voyages. If Poseidon was happy, the sea was calm. If he was angry, terrible storms would appear.
