Bull Sharks

Bull sharks are strong, stocky sharks known for being aggressive. What makes them truly unique is their ability to swim in both salt water and fresh water. Bull sharks have been found far up rivers and even in lakes. They get their name from their blunt snout and habit of head-butting prey.

Fresh and Salt Water

Most sharks can only live in salt water, but bull sharks are different. Special kidneys let them adjust to fresh water. They have been found hundreds of miles up the Mississippi River. Bull sharks also swim up rivers in Australia, Africa, and South America.

Powerful Predators

Bull sharks are muscular and aggressive. They have one of the strongest bites of any shark. Bull sharks eat fish, dolphins, and other sharks. They prefer shallow, warm water near the coast, which is why they sometimes come close to beaches.
