Clownfish
Clownfish
Clownfish are small, colorful fish that live in warm ocean waters. Most clownfish are bright orange with white stripes. They live on coral reefs, often near sea anemones. Clownfish became famous from a popular movie. They are fun to watch as they dart around their homes.
Best Friends with Anemones
Sea anemones have long, stinging arms that scare most fish away. But clownfish are not harmed by the sting. A special slime on their skin keeps them safe. The anemone protects the clownfish from bigger fish. In return, the clownfish cleans the anemone and brings it food.
Family Life
Clownfish live in small family groups in one anemone. The biggest fish is always the female. She is the leader of the group. The female lays her eggs on a rock near the anemone. The father clownfish guards and takes care of the eggs until they hatch.
