Grasshoppers

Grasshoppers are bugs that live in grass and fields. They are famous for their long back legs. These legs help them jump very far. Grasshoppers are usually green or brown. This helps them hide in plants.

Amazing Jumps

A grasshopper can jump about 20 times the length of its body. If a person could jump that far, they could jump over a house. Their back legs work like tiny springs. Grasshoppers also have wings and can fly. They use jumping and flying to escape from danger.

Sounds and Food

Grasshoppers make sounds by rubbing their legs against their wings. Male grasshoppers do this to call females. They eat grass, leaves, and crops. A big group of grasshoppers can eat a whole field. Grasshoppers have ears on their bellies, not their heads.
