Harpy Eagles

The harpy eagle is one of the largest and most powerful eagles in the world. It lives in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. Harpy eagles have thick legs and talons as big as grizzly bear claws. They hunt monkeys and sloths in the treetops.

Powerful Predator

Harpy eagles have the largest talons of any living eagle. Their back talons can be up to 5 inches long, as big as a grizzly bear's claws. They can carry prey that weighs as much as they do. Harpy eagles hunt by flying through the forest canopy at high speed.

Rainforest Kings

Harpy eagles are the top predators of the rainforest. They eat monkeys, sloths, and other animals. They build huge nests in the tallest trees, sometimes 130 feet above the ground. Harpy eagles are rare because they need large areas of untouched rainforest to survive.
