Hyenas
Hyenas
Hyenas are often misunderstood animals. They are not dogs but are actually more closely related to cats. Spotted hyenas are famous for their laughing calls. They are skilled hunters that live in large groups called clans.
Powerful Jaws
Hyenas have some of the strongest jaws of any mammal. They can crush bones that other predators cannot eat. This lets them get nutrition from every part of their prey. A hyena's bite is stronger than a lion's bite.
Clan Life
Spotted hyenas live in large groups called clans led by females. A clan can have up to 80 members. Hyenas are actually very successful hunters and catch most of their own food. They are not just scavengers like many people believe.
