Palm Trees
Palm Trees
Palm trees grow in warm, sunny parts of the world. They have tall, straight trunks with big leaves only at the very top. The leaves are called fronds and can be as long as a car. Palm trees are a favorite sight on tropical beaches.
Palm Tree Parts
Palm trees do not grow like other trees. They do not have branches and instead grow all their leaves in a bunch at the top. Their trunks are often covered in old leaf scars. Many palm trees bend in the wind instead of breaking. This helps them stand up to strong storms and hurricanes.
Palm Tree Food
Palm trees give us many tasty foods. Coconuts grow on coconut palms and have sweet water and white meat inside. Dates come from date palms and are soft and chewy. People also get oil from palm trees to use in cooking. Palm fruits and seeds feed many animals, too.
Fun Facts
- There are about 2,600 different kinds of palm trees.
