Snowy Owls

Snowy owls are beautiful white owls that live in the Arctic. They are one of the largest owl species in the world. Unlike most owls, snowy owls are active during the day. Their white feathers help them blend in with the snow.

Arctic Hunters

Snowy owls hunt small animals like lemmings and rabbits. They sit on the ground or a low perch and wait for prey. Then they swoop down silently to grab it. A snowy owl can eat three to five lemmings per day. In winter, some snowy owls fly south to find food.

Feathered Snowsuits

Snowy owls are built for the cold. Their thick feathers cover their entire body, even their feet. This keeps them warm in temperatures far below zero. Male snowy owls are mostly white, while females have dark spots. Young snowy owls are darker and get whiter as they age.
