Squids

Squids are sea creatures that live in oceans all over the world. They have soft bodies with eight arms and two longer tentacles. Squids are fast swimmers and smart hunters. They are cousins of octopuses and cuttlefish. Some squids are tiny, but others are huge.

How They Move

Squids swim by shooting water out of their bodies. This pushes them backward very fast, like a jet. They can also use fins near their tail to glide slowly. Squids can change direction quickly to catch food or escape. Their bodies are shaped to cut through the water.

Clever Tricks

When a squid feels scared, it shoots out a cloud of black ink. The ink hides the squid so it can swim away. Squids can also change color to blend in with their surroundings. Some even glow in the deep, dark sea. Their big eyes help them see in dim water.
