Wolverines
Wolverines are powerful animals that live in cold places. They live in forests across Canada, Alaska, and northern Europe and Asia. Wolverines look a little like small bears, but they are actually the biggest members of the weasel family. They are known for being strong and tough.
Cold Weather Animals
Wolverines love snow and cold weather. Their thick fur keeps them warm in freezing temperatures. They have wide paws that work like snowshoes. This helps them walk on top of deep snow without sinking. Wolverines can travel many miles each day looking for food.
Strong Hunters
Wolverines eat almost anything they can find. They hunt small animals like rabbits and birds. They also eat dead animals they find in the snow. Wolverines have very strong jaws that can crunch through frozen meat and bones. They sometimes store extra food in the snow to eat later.
Fun Facts
- Wolverines can travel up to 15 miles in a single day.
- They have special teeth that can bite through bones.
- A wolverine's scientific name, Gulo gulo, means 'glutton.'
