Barack Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961. He became the 44th president of the United States in 2009. He was the first African American ever to be president. He served for eight years before leaving office in 2017.
Becoming President
Barack studied law at Harvard University. He worked as a lawyer and teacher in Chicago. Later he became a senator for the state of Illinois. In 2008, he ran for president and won. His campaign word was Hope.
His Work
As president, Obama helped pass a new health care law. It helped millions of people get doctor visits. He also worked to help the country after a big money problem. He and his wife Michelle have two daughters named Malia and Sasha.
