Benazir Bhutto

Benazir Bhutto was a Pakistani politician. She was born in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1953. She became the first woman to lead a Muslim-majority country when she was elected Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1988. She fought for democracy and women's rights throughout her life.

Early Life

Bhutto came from a political family. Her father was also Prime Minister of Pakistan. She studied at Harvard and Oxford universities. She returned to Pakistan to fight for democracy after her father was overthrown and executed.

Prime Minister

Bhutto served as Prime Minister twice, from 1988 to 1990 and from 1993 to 1996. She worked to improve education and healthcare in Pakistan. She was a strong voice for women's rights in her country. She was tragically assassinated in 2007 while campaigning for election.
