Dr. Seuss was the pen name of Theodor Geisel. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1904. He wrote and illustrated over 60 children's books. His funny rhymes and silly characters have delighted children for generations.
Early Life
Geisel loved drawing from a young age. He studied at Dartmouth College and Oxford University. He worked as a cartoonist and advertising illustrator. His first children's book was rejected by 27 publishers before one said yes.
Big Achievements
Dr. Seuss wrote classics like The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He created over 60 books that have sold more than 600 million copies. His books make reading fun with their silly words and colorful pictures.

- Green Eggs and Ham uses only 50 different words because of a bet.
