Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian painter. He was born in Baumgarten, Austria, in 1862. He was famous for his golden, glittering paintings. His most famous work, The Kiss, is one of the most recognized paintings in the world.

Early Life

Klimt grew up in a poor family. His father was a gold engraver, which influenced his love of gold in art. He studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. He started his career painting decorations for theaters and buildings.

Big Achievements

Klimt developed a unique style using gold leaf and rich patterns. His painting The Kiss shows two people embracing in a golden blanket. He was a founder of the Vienna Secession art movement. His work was sometimes controversial because it was so different from traditional art.
