Hakeem Oluseyi is an American astrophysicist and science communicator. He was born James Edward Plummer Jr. in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1967. He studies the Sun and the structure of the universe. He is also famous for making science fun and accessible on television.
Early Life
Oluseyi had a difficult childhood and moved around frequently. He lived in some of the toughest neighborhoods in the country. He found hope in science and studied physics in college. He earned a PhD in physics from Stanford University.
Science and Outreach
Oluseyi has worked on technology to study the Sun and distant stars. He helped develop instruments for NASA satellites. He appeared on many TV shows, including the Science Channel, making science exciting for everyone. He changed his name to Hakeem Oluseyi, which means 'wise one' in Yoruba.
