Hans Christian Andersen

Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish author. He was born in Odense, Denmark, in 1805. He wrote some of the world's most famous fairy tales. Stories like The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling are still loved today.

Early Life

Andersen grew up very poor. His father was a shoemaker. At age 14, he moved to Copenhagen to become an actor. He struggled but eventually got support to continue his education.

Big Achievements

Andersen wrote over 150 fairy tales. His stories include The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, Thumbelina, and The Snow Queen. His tales have been translated into over 125 languages. Disney made movies based on several of his stories.
