Itzhak Perlman

Itzhak Perlman is an Israeli American violinist and conductor. He was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 1945. He is considered one of the greatest violinists of the 20th and 21st centuries. He has performed for presidents, queens, and millions of fans worldwide.

Early Life

Perlman contracted polio at age four, which left him unable to walk without crutches or a wheelchair. He began playing the violin at age three. He moved to the United States at 13 to study at the Juilliard School. He appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show when he was just 13.

Musical Career

Perlman has won 16 Grammy Awards and has performed with every major orchestra in the world. He played on the soundtrack for Schindler's List. He performed at Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009. He is also a beloved teacher who has trained many young violinists.
