Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar was a Roman general and leader. He was born in Rome around 100 BC. He conquered many lands and became the ruler of Rome. His life changed the course of history and led to the rise of the Roman Empire.
Early Life
Caesar came from a noble but not very rich family in Rome. He was well-educated and good at public speaking. He joined the Roman army and quickly showed his talent as a leader. He rose through the ranks of Roman politics.
Big Achievements
Caesar conquered Gaul, which is modern-day France. He crossed the Rubicon River with his army, starting a civil war. He became the dictator of Rome. He reformed the calendar, creating the Julian calendar that is the basis of the one we use today.
Fun Facts
- The month of July is named after Julius Caesar.
- He was kidnapped by pirates as a young man and joked that he would come back and punish them. He did.
- His famous last words are said to be 'Et tu, Brute?' meaning 'And you, Brutus?'
Did You Know?
Caesar was assassinated on March 15, 44 BC, a date known as the Ides of March. He was stabbed by a group of senators who feared he had too much power. His death led to the end of the Roman Republic.
