Kamala Harris is an American politician and lawyer. She was born in Oakland, California, in 1964. In 2021, she became the first woman and the first person of Black and South Asian descent to serve as Vice President. She has broken many barriers throughout her career.
Early Life
Harris's mother was from India and her father was from Jamaica. She grew up in a home that valued education and civil rights. She attended Howard University and then studied law. She became a prosecutor, working to keep communities safe.
Political Career
Harris served as the District Attorney of San Francisco and then as Attorney General of California. She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016. In 2020, she was chosen as Joe Biden's running mate. She made history when they won the election.
