Mark Dean is an American computer engineer and inventor. He was born in Jefferson City, Tennessee, in 1957. He helped create the IBM personal computer that started the PC revolution. He holds three of IBM's original nine patents for the personal computer.
Early Life
Dean was good at math and engineering from a young age. He built a tractor from scratch with his father when he was a boy. He earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee. He joined IBM and began working on personal computers.
Computer Pioneer
Dean helped design the ISA bus, which allows devices like printers and keyboards to plug into computers. He co-invented the color PC monitor. He led the team that created the first gigahertz processor chip. His work helped make personal computers a part of everyday life.
