Michelangelo

Michelangelo was one of the greatest artists of all time. He was born in Caprese, Italy, in 1475. He painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. He also carved the famous statue of David from a single block of marble.

Early Life

Michelangelo wanted to be an artist from a young age. His father did not approve at first. He became an apprentice to a painter in Florence at age 13. He soon began studying sculpture, which became his true passion.

Big Achievements

Michelangelo carved the statue of David when he was just 26 years old. Pope Julius II asked him to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. He spent four years painting it while lying on his back on scaffolding. He also designed the dome of St. Peter's Basilica.
