Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military leader and emperor. He was born on the island of Corsica in 1769. He rose from a humble background to rule most of Europe. He is one of the most famous leaders in history.

Early Life

Napoleon was born on the island of Corsica shortly after it became part of France. He attended military school and became an officer. He showed brilliant military strategy from a young age. He rose quickly through the ranks during the French Revolution.

Big Achievements

Napoleon became Emperor of France in 1804. He conquered much of Europe and reformed laws, education, and government. The Napoleonic Code became the basis for legal systems in many countries. He was finally defeated at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and sent into exile.

  • Despite the popular myth, Napoleon was not actually short. He was about 5 feet 7 inches, average for his time.
