Octavio Paz was born in 1914 in Mexico City. He grew up to be one of the most famous writers in Mexico. Paz wrote poems, books, and essays. His work is about Mexico, love, time, and life. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1990.
His Writing
Paz started writing poems when he was a teenager. His famous book The Labyrinth of Solitude is about the people and culture of Mexico. He also wrote long, beautiful poems about nature and love. His words often made readers think deeply. He wrote in Spanish, but his work was translated into many languages.
His Life
Paz grew up reading books in his grandfather's library. As a young man, he traveled to Spain during a war there. Later he worked as a diplomat, which means he helped his country talk to other nations. He lived in France, India, Japan, and the United States. He died in 1998.
