Roy Clay Sr.
Roy Clay Sr. is an American computer scientist and entrepreneur. He was born in Kinloch, Missouri, in 1929. He led the team that built Hewlett-Packard's first computer. He is often called a founder of Silicon Valley and a pioneer in technology.
Early Life
Clay grew up in a small town near St. Louis, Missouri. He studied mathematics and physics at Saint Louis University. He began working in the early computer industry. He was recruited by David Packard to join Hewlett-Packard.
Tech Pioneer
Clay led the team that designed and built the HP 2116A, Hewlett-Packard's first computer. This computer was a major step in making HP a technology giant. After leaving HP, he started his own technology company. He has spent decades mentoring young people and increasing diversity in the tech industry.
