Simon Bolivar

Simon Bolivar was a Venezuelan military and political leader. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1783. He led the fight to free several South American countries from Spanish rule. He is known as 'The Liberator' across South America.

Bolivar was born into a wealthy family. His parents died when he was young, and he was raised by relatives. He traveled to Europe as a teenager and was inspired by ideas of freedom. He vowed to liberate South America from Spanish control.

The Liberator

Bolivar led military campaigns across South America for over 20 years. He helped free Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and Bolivia. Bolivia was even named after him. He dreamed of a united South America, though that dream was never fully realized.
