Suni Lee is an American artistic gymnast. She was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 2003. She won the all-around gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She is the first Hmong American to compete in and win an Olympic gold medal.
Early Life
Lee was born to a Hmong American family in Minnesota. She started gymnastics when she was six years old. Her father built her a balance beam in the backyard from wood. She overcame many challenges, including her father's paralysis from an accident, to reach the Olympics.
Olympic Champion
Lee qualified for the 2020 Olympics after years of hard work. She won the all-around gold medal, becoming only the sixth American woman to do so. She also won a bronze on the uneven bars and a team silver. She became a role model for the Hmong community and gymnasts everywhere.
