Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison was one of the greatest inventors in history. He was born in Ohio in 1847. He created the first practical light bulb. He also invented the phonograph, which could record and play sound.

Early Life

Edison was mostly homeschooled by his mother. He was curious about everything. As a boy, he set up a chemistry lab in his basement. He started working on the railroad as a teenager.

Big Achievements

Edison held over 1,000 patents. He built the first power station in New York City. He created one of the first movie cameras. His lab in Menlo Park, New Jersey, was called the invention factory.

  • Edison took very short naps instead of sleeping a full night.
