Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter. He was born in Sherwood Content, Jamaica, in 1986. He holds the world record for the 100 meters and 200 meters. He is the fastest human being ever timed.

Early Life

Bolt loved running and playing cricket as a child. He was tall and fast from a young age. His cricket coach noticed his speed and suggested he try track and field. He became the youngest world junior gold medalist at age 15.

Big Achievements

Bolt won eight Olympic gold medals across three Olympic Games. He set the world record in the 100 meters at 9.58 seconds. He also holds the 200-meter record at 19.19 seconds. He is the only person to win the 100m and 200m at three straight Olympics.

  • Bolt's nickname is Lightning Bolt.
  • He ate chicken nuggets before almost every race at the 2008 Olympics.
  • At his top speed, he ran about 27 miles per hour.

Bolt's stride is so long that he takes fewer steps than other sprinters in a race. While most sprinters take about 44 steps in the 100 meters, Bolt takes only about 41. His combination of height and speed makes him unique.
