Zheng He
Zheng He was a Chinese admiral and explorer. He was born in Yunnan, China, around 1371. He led seven huge voyages across the Indian Ocean. His fleet had some of the largest wooden ships ever built.
Early Life
Zheng He was captured as a boy during a war and taken to serve in the Chinese court. He became a trusted advisor to the Yongle Emperor. The emperor chose him to lead great voyages to spread Chinese influence and trade.
Big Achievements
From 1405 to 1433, Zheng He led seven voyages with hundreds of ships. His treasure ships were over 400 feet long. He visited Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East, and East Africa. He brought back giraffes, gems, and spices to China.

- Zheng He's largest ships were about five times bigger than Columbus's ships.
