Pet Nutrition
Just like you, your pet needs healthy food to grow strong and stay well. Different animals need different types of food. Feeding your pet the right amount of the right food is one of the most important parts of pet care. Good nutrition keeps your pet happy and full of energy.
What Different Pets Eat
Dogs and cats eat specially made pet food with all the nutrients they need. Dogs can eat both meat and vegetables, but cats need mostly meat. Rabbits and guinea pigs eat hay, vegetables, and pellets. Fish need special flakes or pellets made just for them. Never feed a pet human junk food.
Foods to Avoid
Some human foods can be dangerous for pets. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs and cats. Grapes and raisins can make dogs very sick. Onions and garlic are bad for most pets. Always check with a vet before sharing any human food with your pet.
Fun Facts
- Cats cannot taste sweet things because they are missing the taste receptor for it.
- A dog's sense of smell is so good they can tell if food is safe to eat just by sniffing it.
- Rabbits need to eat hay every day to keep their teeth from growing too long.
