Pet Turtles
Pet Turtles
Turtles are one of the oldest types of reptiles on Earth. They have been around for over 200 million years. Pet turtles are quiet and interesting to watch. They move slowly on land but can be surprisingly quick in water.
Turtle Shells
A turtle's shell is actually part of its skeleton. It is made up of about 60 bones all connected together. The shell protects the turtle from predators. A turtle cannot crawl out of its shell because the shell grows with its body.
Caring for Pet Turtles
Pet turtles need a tank with both water and a dry area for basking. They need a special heat lamp to stay warm. Most pet turtles eat a mix of vegetables, fruits, and turtle pellets. Turtles can live for decades, so getting one is a long commitment.
Fun Facts
