The History of Pets
Humans and animals have been friends for a very long time. The history of pets goes back thousands of years. Dogs were the first animals to be tamed, followed by cats, horses, and many others. Over time, animals went from being just helpers to being beloved family members.
The First Pets
Dogs were the first animals to become pets, about 15,000 years ago. Early humans and wolves learned to help each other hunt and stay safe. Cats became pets about 10,000 years ago when people started farming. Cats helped by catching mice that ate stored grain. Ancient Egyptians loved their cats so much they made laws to protect them.
Pets Through the Ages
In ancient Rome, people kept dogs, birds, and even fish as pets. During the Middle Ages, kings and queens kept falcons for hunting. By the 1800s, keeping pets became popular with ordinary families. Today, pets are treated like family members in many countries around the world.
