Drones
Drones
Drones are flying machines that do not have a pilot inside. They can be controlled from the ground with a remote or they can fly on their own using GPS and computers. Drones can be as small as your hand or as big as an airplane. They are used for photography, deliveries, farming, and even saving lives.
How Drones Fly
Most small drones have four propellers, which is why they are called quadcopters. The propellers spin to lift the drone into the air. By changing the speed of each propeller, the drone can move forward, backward, sideways, and hover in place. GPS helps the drone know where it is. Cameras and sensors help it avoid obstacles.
Drones Helping People
Drones have many helpful uses. They deliver medicine to remote areas. They help farmers check on their crops. Search and rescue teams use drones to find missing people. Scientists use drones to study volcanoes, wildlife, and storms. Companies are testing drones for package delivery right to your doorstep.
Fun Facts
- Some drones can fly for more than 24 hours without landing.
- Drone racing is a real sport where pilots wear VR goggles to see what the drone sees.
- Wildlife photographers use drones to film animals without disturbing them.
